The Department of Geophysics is excited to announce that Rohaiz Haris is the first recipient of the Guu-Major Opportunity Fellowship. During his undergraduate studies, Haris has made strong contributions in cryospheric science. The fellowship will allow him to expand his knowledge of ice sheet processes/dynamics at Mines, to share his science with broad communities ranging from researchers to coastal communities, and to become a leader in his science community. The Guu-Major Opportunity Fellowship is a renewable, four-year award established by Yvonne and Jason Guu in honor of their parents [Cindy Kuei-Ding Guu (Geophysics M.Sc. 1982) and Jeng-Yih Guu (Geophysics Ph.D. 1975)] and the transformative impact of Dr. Maurice Major, Professor Emeritus of Geophysics, who influenced their success at Mines.
