Congratulations to Dr Ebru Bozdag and her collaborators for being awarded a collaborative NSF-CSSI grant.  The project, termed Seismic COmputational Platform for Empowering Discovery, or SCOPED), will build a cyberinfrastructure, initially supported by the Texas Advanced Computing Center, to facilitate HPC/Cloud-based research addressing large-scale computational and big data challenges in seismology. Coordinating with larger seismology efforts such as IRIS and Computational Infrastructure for Geodynamics (CIG), SCOPED will provide fast access to seismic archives from a suite of containerized open-source computational tools for big data analysis, machine learning, and high-performance simulations. The team will also rain students and researchers on operating computational and big data projects on HPC and Cloud environments.

SCOPED is a four-year project, and the team will gradually open the platform to the community (expected in the third year). Along with Dr. Bozdag, team members include: Carl Tape (Alaska-Fairbanks), Marine Denolle (UW Seattle), Felix Waldhouser (Lamont-Columbia), and Ian Wang (TACC UT Austin).
